Continuing the Conversation with Joyanne Manning

Every year IWD nominates a theme for discussion and attention, this year, the theme is #breakthebias and as like all years past there is much conversation and frenzy leading up to and during the week that IWD actually falls. However, that is usually where the conversation ends until the next year.

I am continuing the conversation by interviewing amazing humans around the world to better understand what #breakthebias means to different people in different circumstances, how they see bias play out in their life and what they are doing both personally and within their organisations to #breakthebias.

Today I am chatting with Joyanne Manning. Joyanne is the Australasian Resources Leader, Arup’s Global Circular Economy Skills Leader and a member of the Arup Australasian Regional Board. She is a Fellow and Engineering Executive of Engineers Australia. With a particular ambition and focus on driving the principles of a circular economy, and on recognising waste as a valuable resource, she works on an ongoing basis as a technical advisor to Government Agencies and Private Clients in the development of resource and circular strategy and policy and on infrastructure provision to enable circularity. She is one of the key people leading Arup’s transformation of putting sustainable development at the heart of everything we do, in order to meaningfully contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Joyanne is originally from Dublin, lives in Brisbane with her husband, two teenage children and two jack Russell dogs. She is an avid rugby fan and bridge player both of which can cause her great joy and disappointment for different reasons!
